Type of a scam Online Purchase
I've also contacted and filed reports with Ebay. What other means can I use to protect myself legally and financially and recover the rest of the money that I'm owed. I don't like fraud...
This is my first time encountering fraudulent activity on such a scale within ebay.
I entered into a bidding war for a piece of property in a Southern State Capital, somehow or another to my massive astonishment I won, and then the problems started.
I began by just trying to send the amount owed for the property via Swift-Transfer, but the guy's bank account bounced back the transfer.
Since this didn't work, I transferred the guy an earnest money deposit, at about 10% of the total value of the property and asked for him to wait a few days. I sent this via standard bank transfer from the states using something called PopMoney. It worked, guy had his deposit in a few days from having sent it. (Strike 2 for me)
Tried sending money once my transfer from my overseas bank account hit my American account, that went by without a hitch, but I noticed that the guy had posted the property that I had bought online again. (Strike Three for me)
At this point I contacted the seller, did some more digging about the property as listed and had a good mate go and check out the property to see if it was as listed within the ebay auction itself. By the holy mother of Bob, it wasn't. The property turned out to be nothing more than a burnt out husk of a house.
I contacted ebay support, and told them of this, started documenting everything, stopped payment on the property and dropped the guy a rather massively low rating for this fraud.
I also contacted the Attorney Generals offices in Mississippi and Florida as well as leaving reports with ic3.gov and the FTC.
The guy sent me a message that he was keeping the deposit..... But, apparently at this point his account is under investigation for fraudulent activity and something called ghosting.
This was my reintroduction to American Ebay, after being away for a decade, I get defrauded on my first intermediate-sized purchase.
