Deckers Outdoor Corp Reports & Reviews (6)

I just went through the exact same thing. I was contacted originally through text by someone identifying themselves as Mr Frank Robson from Deckers Outdoor Corporation Company (+765-544-3448) stating that they saw my resume on Indeed and wanted to schedule an interview.

I then went through a bizarre interview experience on Skype with Amber Gann-Smith (I don't know if someone is using her identity? Because she does have what looks to be an authentic LinkedIn profile that says she's HR for this Deckers company).

It was weird because the "interview" was conducted over a Skype message chat as opposed to a video call, which is much more typical.

I should have known immediately this was total junk because the first skype message was something along the lines of "apologies if this interview style seems unprofessional" (I am currently kicking myself for not grabbing a screenshot of this message!). And like no legit employer is going to start off things off that way.

But my [censored] continued because they offered $50/hour. And even though the majority of my experience is in videography/graphic design- this Amber gave me like a list of positions I could choose from: Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Interior Design, UX Designer, Videographer.

Like how could someone remote WFH interior design?

Anyways, I said I would be interested in learning UX Design if they were training (again- I have no experience in UX Design). But this interviewer agreed to give me the position I choose.

Anyways, by the time they e-mailed me a check for me to mobile deposit, supposedly for work equipment, I started to have a bad gut feeling. I've worked for generous companies, but no one just sends out cash...

Also they sent me this "check" from the email address [email protected] - if nothing else SCREAMS SCAM, an Outlook email address does! Notice not a @deckers.com sort of work email address but a damn Outlook address - is Outlook even still around?)-
I decided to google "Deckers Outdoor Scam" and found this page.

I then blocked and deleted this Amber Gann- Smith on Skype and the phone number they contacted me on.

I just went through the same thing on 10/29/21. A man introducing himself as Esteban Arellano. Adviced the company Deckers Outdoor Corp would be a good fit. Said you will be making $35. an hour but $19 for the training period. Accepted the job but still felt it was to good to be true. When it did hit me is when he stated oh they are going to send you a lap and your first payment due to, you have to buy the software. Received the check, and to deposit it through your banks mobile app. I told him I was going to print out the check and take it to my bank. He wanted to know why. I told him I will take it down in the morning. So today 10/30/21 I told him I was not going to deposit the check was going to see the bank manager. He was mad. I said I did alot of research last night and we are done.

Yes, this guy Lou Flores was trying to get me too. and they do it on a Friday where customer service is not available nor the legal shield department. I did not go through this scam, but afraid that they have all my personal information.

This identical thing happened to me yesterday morning, except they sent me a scanned check for $4,900 over email and wanted me to deposit it through my bank app to buy the necessary equipment. I have a printer so they rushed the whole process through one morning, after emailing me about the interview the day before. I don't think I even applied for this job...

My son just went though this..exactly the same…

I was reach out by an HR rep via text from supposedly Deckers Outdoor Corp. They wanted to know if I was interested in an interview. I didn't think much of it because I had recently uploaded my resume to indeed, glass door and zip recruiter. It seemed like a good opportunity and it was for a company like seemed like a really good fit so I accepted. They then gave me an email contact for a Skype interview. I logged in at the scheduled time, and the whole interview was by instant messaging, no video. They immediately offered the job and sent paperwork including the offer letter, W-4 and employment eligibility. They were extremely pushy to have the documents signed and returned right away. I didn't want to give any reason to disappoint so I filled out the paperwork and returned later that evening. In the back of my mind I though this was too good to be true. The pay was $50 an hour, and the interview was informal. I still wanted to have hope though, because the job opening on the company's website was real and there was also a Lou Flores on LinkedIn who was head of HR for Deckers Corp. After I sent to papers, they wanted me to report back to them 8am the next day, which was a Saturday. I followed through and logged in Skype 8am like they asked, and they were asking me if I had my bank mobile ap and if I knew how to mobile upload a check. They wanted to send me a check to print out and upload. I told them I didn't have a printer. They then asked if I was willing to put up $500 for needed equipment and I would be reimbursed (even though they told me after I accepted the job offer that they would send me a check to buy all necessary equipment). I said yes, and they asked for me to head to Walmart right away and to email as soon as I got there. I thought I was about to buy a printer or something. This was when I started to feel silly and annoyed. They wanted me to see if Walmart had American Express gift cards or Ebay gift cards. I wondered around looking and even asked a store associate and there weren't any. They then asked if they had Apple gift cards- I said yes- but then they wanted me to go to Walgreens instead. I drove to walgreens. They asked again about the American Express gift card and I said yes, they have them. They wanted me to purchase a $500 one. I was about to, then the manager ringing me up saved me. He asked if someone was telling me to buy this, someone I never met. I said yes, and he shared how his mother went through a similar experience. It sunk in this was indeed a scam. I did not purchase and told them I did not feel comfortable buying and asked to schedule a Skype video chat. They agreed for Monday, and insisted I still buy the card, because it was to activate my "time tracker". I said I'm not buying it until I feel comfortable. That was it. I purchased IDshield the next day to protect my identity.
