Total money lost $10,000,000
Type of a scam Investment
Their victims are mostly senior citizens who were sold "convertible notes" in exchange for cash and/or roll over of 401k's into a company called Equity Trust (Ohio company the scammers use to launder the money through and replace the funds with worthless notes). Soon after millions of dollars are taken from the victims, the "investment" funds mysteriously disappear and investors are left with worthless notes or shares. This business model has been successfully used by these crooks for many years to rob seniors, often targeting those who live in or use facilities located in local golf communities such as Gulf Shores, AL.
The same four individuals are involved in both scams identified in this report.
The highest levels of management of Peninsula (Honors Golf CEO) and the City of Gulf Shores (Mayor) were notified of these scams and other similar ones six months ago; I see no changes, follow up, nor public warnings to the citizens to beware of these scams, and no reason to believe that will change. Every day this activity is not reported, more seniors are losing their hard earned savings.
Multiple separate but parallel scams have been/are operating in Gulf Shores golf communities (on the golf course, tennis courts, club houses) and multiple restaurants in Orange Beach.
The first scam I am aware of in Peninsula/Gulf Shores around 2009-2015 was Nova Technologies, offering new stun gun technology. Approximately $7.5M in "investments/convertible notes" were sold to unsuspecting residents and non-residents of Peninsula, Craft Farms, etc.
Beginning in 2012 two other companies were used in a scam by the same crooks: Defender Technologies & Defender Homes (both names used during the scam and money was moved back and forth between these companies) which builds hurricane resistant fortified homes using a concrete panel wall system. This new hurricane resistant technology was reported on by local Gulf Shores TV stations and radio stations for several years, etc. The mostly senior Investors were scammed out of approximately $2.5M by "investing" in Defender. A model "Defender" home was built in Peninsula using this technology. The house was used as one of the locations in the Peninsula community to solicit funds via investment meetings, holding open houses/events for the Chamber of Commerce, Builders Assn. meetings, and even had Governor Bentley preside over the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the model home, etc. using unsuspecting community and state officials in hopes of lending credibility to the product and attracting more investors.
None of the ~$10M in cash and 401k roll over money taken via Nova Technologies, Defender Technologies, and Defender Homes scams was ever recovered. I estimate a hundred and fifty victims minimum were involved in just these scams.
These scams must be reported to the public and warnings issued.
I am posting this notification on behalf of all those who lost money to these crooks and those who are yet to do so.
ENOUGH!
