- Bremerton, WA, USA

I was parked in a spot minding my own business, when a car pulled up right next to me. The female passenger began talking to me through my window. I rolled down my window to hear what she was saying to me. She says “my husband noticed some body damage on your vehicle”, and he says “you probably got that dent by hitting a rock or a curb” and begins telling me that he does dent repair, and that due to the pandemic, his company is now “completely mobile”, and he assures me he can get that dent “right out”. I told him that I would take his business card. However, he continues peddling and tells me he can get it done in about fifteen minutes for $200. (I wasn’t interested) and I told him that I’m broke right now and I’m trying to get to work but that I would take his business card, which he ignores, and then asks “what is the most you could pay in your situation” (or something along the lines of that) and I respond “I’m still trying to save up for my next months rent”, then he tells me he will do it right now for $95. I tell him I don’t have any cash, and he tells me I can go to an ATM, and that he will “even pay the ATM fee”. Somehow, I am successfully pressured into getting out of my car, and he shows me the tool he will use to supposedly remove to dent, which convinces me that he is somewhat legit and that he could probably remove the dent, and that it would sure be nice to get rid of that hideous dent for $95 (which might have been overpriced, but I was willing to do it for the convenience). I agree, and he instructs me to go in the drivers seat and apply the brake, his reason for this is so I “wouldn’t get a check engine light” (looking back I realize that is a sure tell that this is a scam, as it makes literally no sense, however at the time my head must have been too clouded by my anxiety). When I am in the drivers seat, I can hear him doing whatever ‘work’ to the car and its making a ‘tap tap tap tap tap’ noise. Eventually he finishes and I get out to look, I can see that he’s applied some sort of wax, I also notice that I can still see its still a little bit dented, but he was talking real fast about how he’s applied some sort of “contour wax” and all I have to do is let it sit overnight and take it through the car wash the next morning. Somehow, I am still not suspicious… and he tells me I can go and find an ATM to pay him, so I look at my phone and check for an ATM and see there is an Allpoint ATM inside of Riteaid. I walk inside to the ATM and withdraw $60, as I had another $40 in my wallet. I returned outside and handed him the money, he thanked me and swiftly got in his car and backed up and drove off. Thankfully, I had the sense to take a picture of his license plate. Which I looked up the plate number and got a result of the same Audi Q5 he was driving. I was pressured and coerced into paying him $100 because he would not leave me alone until I did.
