On 9/18/2021 My wife got a message on Facebook from someone who had used the identity and photo of a long time friend. He said that the Department of Health and Human Services was helping retired a Disabled people to benefit financially. He said he received $150,000.00 and suggested She texted the agent in charge, his name was Douglass Snyder at 508-329-2972 and tell him that she was ready to apply for DHHS. She sent the text and was told to keep everything secret. All the while she was going back and forth with the impersonator of our friend and he told her to just follow the instructions of Mr. Snyder. She asked him if this was a scam and he said no it’s real. She followed Mr. Snyder’s instructions and gave him her name, address and Social Security number. He told her it would cost $1500.00 and She could buy 3 $500.00 gift cards and he would come to our house. She eventually told me and I called our family friend, who said that it wasn’t him sending the text and it must be a scam. All this took place over a few days.She did not give any money. She received a few more messages from the scammer but she didn’t respond. She has not heard from him since.
