The person contacted us by email through the website. He said he needed some work done at his home but he was out of town. He said someone would meet us there to do the work. He provided the information we needed & we emailed a quote to him for the work. He signed the proposal & emailed it back. At this time he started texting the Contractor as he always provides his cell # to customers. He texted that he would send a check for the work so we could schedule it. Then he texts back that the person preparing the check had put all the money for other items on one check. He texted that he couldn't cancel it due to his bank regulations. He then asks us to cash it & after it was cleared to take out our fee & give the rest to the agent who would meet us at the house. We did receive a check in the mail for $3875.25 for $700.00 of work to be completed by us. It was sent with a tracking #. He texted almost immediately after it was delivered to make sure we got it & would cash/deposit it. We texted back that we were not able to accept checks for more than the amount of the work & would not be depositing it. He texted back that there was nothing wrong with the check & it would clear. We again said we would not accept it. We have heard nothing else from him. The address that he provided for the home was not recorded in the name he gave us on the property appraiser's site.
