I got the phone call sometime between 11:30 to 12:00 opening with a hello quickly followed by the question "May I speak to ***?". The blank being the name of either who they show as the homeowner or as the phone service account name. Usually that's you. As soon as you confirm you are who they are looking for they start their pitchline. "Congratulations. You have just been selected to receive a $100.00 voucher that I can use to purchase items at any recognized grocery or department store, dropping names like Walmart, Home Depot and Office Depot among a few other brand and generic names. "We also have a packet of offers from organizations, clubs, etc. to send to you that could help you save even more money. Although the information is free we would like to ask you to pay $495 for shipping and handling fees. So you would receive a $100.00 voucher and the offers for $4.95 and it will probably turn out to be an instruction sheet with a couple of cut outs that are the vouchers that you will use and offers to join clubs and organizations with a fee that will not turn out to be so beneficial. I have actually fell for this before. And when inquiring about how the vouchers work you will get evasive answers and they will eventually hang up on you.
