I was paying my bills online and afterwards, I decided to download Avast antivirus software. All of a sudden, an error message appeared stating to the effect that my info was being compromised. I couldn't even log out. A number claiming to be from Microsoft was there. I assumed it was legitimate. I was wrong.

A tech, Daniel from digitech stated that people were hacking my information. Of course I panicked.

He said that it would cost $392 to fix problems and I would have to pay a out $3100 for 5 years for the service. I gave them my banking info thinking this was a reputable business. When I got off the phone, I looked up info about company and cried.

I immediately called my bank and explained what had happened. They transferred me to the fraud department.

I've never fallen victim to something like this before. I'm concerned how people can control someone's personal computer, and basically no one is safe, not even corporations.

I was working on my computer and had an error message pop-up stating that Microsoft Edge on my computer had been infected by a virus and that if I didn't take care of immediately my computer and contents could be at risk. They gave a telephone number to call and take care of the issue.

Received a pop-up when turning on computer that stated we needed to call because our computer was hacked and if we don't call, computer will freeze and everything will be erased. They stated they are a 3rd party outsourced for Microsoft. They asked to access our computer and log in to check system. They showed us errors that supposedly were viruses. After stating that they could fix the problems and protect our computer, they wanted $150 to fix problem and an additional $200.00 to protect the computer. After payment, a friend of ours told us of the scam and we contacted the bank. No viruses found on my computer after taking to Staples.
