Received a call claiming to be with AT&T Directv offering 30% discount for 2 years if you pay upfront with a Best Buy Gift card. Claimed that AT&T merged with Best Buy to be able to offer these lower prices. There are various numbers provided AT&T does not have any promos with Best Buy. Now I’m out $765 and Best Buy won’t assist in anyway

You receive a phone call letting you know AT&T/Directv has a promotion going on with EBAY to help promote the giftcard. They're giving you a rate of$69.99 for 2 years when you purchase the EBAY gift card but you have to pay the first 3 months up front with the giftcard totaling $225. You purchase the giftcard and give the code to receive this deal. I called the number back which was 888/574-2419 and AT&T instructions came up prompting you to dial certain numbers for certain things and an agent picked up. I was told I would receive a confirmation by email in 48 hours. I called a different number for AT&T/Directv to ask if this promotion exist and they told me no.

Caller offered software update to Direct TV box, instructed me to unplug for ten seconds, then perform a series of operations using DTV remote. Then insisted I owed $174.99 for the update. Wanted payment by check or money order to be mailed. I refused and hung up. I then called Direct TV and confirmed the call was an attempted scam.

Caller claimed he was with DirecTV. He has called twice. First time he said I owed $57.11 and if I didn't pay it, the amount would be turned over to collectors. I contacted AT&T. They said DirecTV will never call. Same person called again yesterday, this time claiming I owed over $200. My account is current.
