A friend came to visit yesterday and of course we began talking about Rocky and how he's coming on Friday. When I said I had no travel information, that the breeder said she'd provide it Friday morning, a red flag went up for her. She asked me how I knew this was not a puppy scam. I was stunned. It had never occurred to me. Then I started thinking. We only corresponded via text and email. I sent her the $750 for Rocky, including his flight to San Diego from Texas via ApplePay. Number used for that was 912-210-1186.
I woke up very early today and began researching online. Now, truthfully, I became increasingly nervous because I couldn't find Divine Schnauzers, the name on the contract, online anywhere today. All I found was a blocked "scam site" called Divine Schnauzers OnLine. The address provided on the contract, 2104 Delia Ave. belongs to a 92 year old Hispanic man in Brownsville. I also googled Linda Lauture, the name the woman gave me and the person I sent the money to and got zip, zero, nada.
I called the number I've been texting and on the contract. 830-282-1938 A man answered. He said he's been getting a lot of calls about missing Schnauzer puppies. He said someone is using his number fraudulently and he has reported it to the police.
I called the number I used for ApplePay and got an impersonal message.
