I did a search for a “small lathe” and DIYlife was at the top of the tool list. I looked at it. It looked pretty good so I ordered it. It took two weeks for delivery, (then I realized it was another Chinese product sent all the way from China. It came two weeks later in a small box in my mail package box. The box was all bashed up but the contents were fine. I was just looking for a small lathe. It came as about 15” long thing with a bunch of accessories. Their ad didn’t say how small it was. Nor did it say that it is shipped from China, and not til I requested a return on the package, they said I had to pay the shipping back to China, which is obscenely expensive. The lathe was $149 with free shipping, (from China). They said that they have to authorize a return after I assured them that all was not used, intact, and not damaged and all there. They said they’ll decide if they want me to return it and an address to send it to in China. Well they have no office in China, said that I have to send it back to the manufacturer. And they will send me the address within 2-3 business days. Well it has been over a week and I still haven’t heard from them about where to send it. They require a return within 30 days. Well two weeks has already gone by since I received it in the mail. I don’t know if they’re stalling to get that 30 days to run out and I won’t get my money back if it’s late. I could take it to UPS or FED X and see what it would cost to ship it to China. They have an address on one of their return pages but I don’t know if it’s the right address because if I don’t get that right, I won’t get a refund. I might have come across them before. They had a ribbon sander, which I was looking for so I purchased it. Again they didn’t tell me that it was this real little tiny thing and not the bench top machine I was looking for. Again it was like breaking teeth to send it back. (I didn’t have the order number on it anymore as I had deleted all my mail from them. I never got them to resolve the problem and it cost more to send it back to China than it cost in the first place. So I had to eat it. I put it on Craigslist and no one answered.) they are glad to sell to you at their price, but send it back, they claim “hassle free returns”, NOT. They make it as hard as they can and don’t get back to you as promised. Just out of curiosity I looked up the same machine on Amazon and their same machine, the lathe, was $55-60 and the one from China $150. I was sorry I hadn’t checked with Amazon. It cost 1/3 and guaranteed return for free. This is happening to people in America by the Chinese and I think that that edges on scamming. I somehow found their office as being some little house on some strange street.

I have a notion to also write a letter to Congress about this kind of “business” coming from China. Another thing happened, on Yahoo’s news pages, a real nice looking quality looking pair of shoes at a cost of $25. Or something. They came small enough to fit an 8 year old. Their sizes were in very small letters that was easy to miss. I went to send them back and it cost more for the shipping back to China than the shoes cost. I would say, if people don’t know it already, this is how business from China is. I recommend just buying what you want from Amazon and not risk that obscurity of its possibility of it coming from china as it is NOT a good deal. Thank you.
