Unfinished substandard work

I should have known. Dan's cell phone had a different name. He gave a fair estimate so I hired him to patch up two ceilings. I was surprised he came back with a young lady helper. He patched up the two spots and came back the next day to paint. He had the young lady do the bathroom but called me stating there was a problem that the paint would not cover the ceiling. I thought he would do the best he could. While the one room was done ok, the bathroom ceiling is a disaster. I paid him as he explained the paint kept bubbling up. He waited in his car while the girl painted. Now I see all the red flags. Dan is a scammer. Oh yep, I paid cash as he requested.

My mother answered an ad in the West Seneca Pennysaver to have her porch roof repaired/replaced. Dan (do not know last name) answered and came to house. He said he would do job for $4500 cash w/ no contract.

My mother gave him $2200/for supplies on April 10, 2023.

He had only delivered about an estimated $1000 to $1500 in materials since then on 5 separate occasions. Last week he said he wanted $1500 more. He has been here about 15 times, only spending about 10 to 20 minutes - except for partially dismantling the porch roof.

That day he was here for about 3 hours.

I have texts from him saying his billable hours include calls, texting, fuel costs and travel time for the one hour drive from Franklinville, NY

After observing his shoddy workmanship and refusing to provide copies of invoices for materials purchased ( not even enough wood to do the job), my mother said she did not want him doing any more work on her house.

He threatened to put a contractor's lien on her property unless he was paid more.

Yea I had him do work for me, the total estimated $1,200 well I have been looking for more people that he had screwed. Threading to call health department also codes. Feel free to contact me.
