At TFG a woman put me on hold while she got Debbie Clark on the phone. Debbie was supposedly handling my case. It sounded like the same woman came back on the line and identified herself as Debbie Clark. She told me my call threw her off because most people know why they are being served but she’d try to help me determine what this was all about. She told me her agency worked as a mediator for outstanding debts. She said she’s been retained by Synchrony Bank because they’d been unable to reach me for 7 years and now my debt had essentially doubled and I was being summoned to appear in court. Once I was served I’d know what steps to take; I’d probably need to retain a lawyer.
When I said she must have the wrong person, she read off all kinds of information about me...full name, current and prior address, birth date, and SS number. She then said I could call back and make an offer to settle if I didn’t want to go through a court appearance.
