Domain Registry Reports & Reviews (21)

“Domain Registry,” mailed me a bill-like letter indicating that I should “Act Today!” to renew my domain registration. This correspondence is confusing, making it seem like I need to pay them to renew my domain registration, which I do not.

Received a letter in the mail with my website domain listed and stating that it was about to expire and I needed to pay them to renew it. This is not the company that hosts my domain and they are asking for 4x the amount I normally pay to renew. No contact phone or email listed, Just a website.

Sent invoice for domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months.

I received a "Domain Name Expiration Notice" in the mail from Domain Registry that states "As a courtesy to domain holders, we are sending you this notification of the domain name registration that is due to expire in the next few months. When you switch today to Domain registry, you can take advantage of our best savings. Your registration of *********.com will expire on September 26, 2022. Act Today!" And goes on to state..."You must renew your domain name to keep exclusive rights to it on the web..." It says to check the box next to the domain name I'd like to "renew". Throughout this letter it uses the term "RENEW" of registration NOT what it actually is offering... which is a "TRANSFER" of registration. This is very deceptive!!!

"Domain Name Expiration Notice" ******** alert. This makes me so mad. We work hard for every penny in this ******, and along comes this garbage fake expiration notice: "You must renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights to it on the Web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current Registrar to Domain Registry", etc. etc. Oh, and true it does quietly mention that this notice is not a bill. But it sure looks like a bill, and it sure sounds like I might lose my website if I don't renew today. The phone number doesn't work -- I know because I called to take myself off of their mailing list. Domain Registry, whoever you are, I quietly curse you.

Claiming they own our domain when it is owned by Godaddy. I monitor our domain, so I know this is a scam.

They send out misleading letters/bills that encourage the recipient to renew a domain name that is no longer available. They were trying to sell a renewal to the old owner of a domain name that I have owned for a few years. The domain was already registered and if the person had sent money it would have been for nothing.

I received a letter from Domain Registry that looked like a renewal bill with a reply envelope. The language in the letter uses scare tactics to try to get you to switch to their company. Unless you read the top of the "expiration notice" closely, you could easily confuse this for an actual renewal of your website. Instead of offering the many benefits of switching and making it clear that you have other options, the company choose to try to trick me into switching by the letter layout and language.

many reports of this business reported already

This company is soliciting its services by implying that customers "MUST RENEW THEIR DOMAIN TO RETAIN EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO IT ON THE WEB, AND NOW IS THE TIME TO TRANSFER AND RENEW YOUR NAME FROM YOUR CURRENT REGISTRAR TO DOMAIN REGISTRY". This is very misleading to many who are not aware that their current domain provider does this already. If anyone responds to this mailer thinking they "MUST", their domain will be transferred from their current domain provider to this private company.

It looks like you must pay in order to maintain your domain name even though they do not host your service.

This Domain Registry is a SCAM business trying to get me to renew my DOMAIN with them. I am smart enough to remember that my real domain costs $18 per year, was purchased from another company, and it renews automatically. This SCAM business wants me to pay $50/year up to $190 for 5 years and provide my credit card number. The SCAMMER sent this letter to me two months before my actual domain expires so I will foolishly "renew" thru them instead of my real provider. And of course, we all know that it would not really be renewing anything at all. It would be sending my money and my credit card info to a SCAMMER! I didn't provide any information to this FAKE company but they sure did know plenty about me, including my full name, street address, zip code and domain name.

The scammer sent an invoice in the mail. The mailer gives the impression that they are currently the domain host. I found the company website so I called them. The individual that answered was defensive from the moment I asked about the invoice. I told him that his mailer was misleading and implied that they are our current host. He told me that I needed to learn how to read and he hung up on me. Please beware of this scam!!

This company sends bills regularly for domain renewals, however we have not purchased anything from them, and they are completely fraudulent. I'm afraid of how many people don't know what they're doing and send money to these awful people. - ****

Received two invoice notifications stating that registration for our organization's domain name will expire and that we should transfer and renew from current Registrar to Domain Registry to retain exclusive rights to it on the web. Failure to renew our domain will result loss of our online identity and domain name. Both invoices had three year term options to choose from and price for each starting from $50.00 to $190.00. Also, the organization can pay for additional domains (e.g. .info and .biz) for a two year term at $90.00 each. Payment is credit card only and must be mailed in the enclosed envelope provided. No additional options (i.e. company website, check payment, phone, etc.) to pay for the invoice other than to mail your credit card information in the enclosed envelope. Additionally, with the exception of a website address of the company, there's no contact information (i.e. company phone number, address) is provided on the invoice.

They send a email saying your domain registry is going to expire. I went on and paid 10 years. Now the company we really get it from is asking for payment

Their literature is VERY misleading. They use alarmist headlines to alert you to an issue which is a valid one as far as the customer is concerned. They claim that the literature is "not a bill" but, this is hidden in the body of the text instead of being in bold & capped at the top of the text. They don't provide a phone number on the notice & they ask you to go to their website www.giv.com to pay for the service. I made the mistake and got charged $190.00. When I tried calling this company to get my money back, I got a mailbox is full message.

I received a mail piece that looks professional but I know for fact that I only use one company for all domain services and renewals. It is setup to renew automatically every year unless I denote otherwise. Report this scam company because I can see many people being duped.

Over the years, I randomly receive a "Domain Name Expiration Notice" from Domain Registry (www.giv.com), for the many domain names that I own. These notices are made to look like real domain renewal invoices. They ask an inflated amount of money for domain renewal. I have called Domain Registry twice and asked to be removed from their mailing list. I consider these notices to be SPAM. This past week I received yet another mailing. I called today and again was very RUDELY spoken to. The agent just kept asking the same question over and over ("what's your domain") and when I tried to ask this person a question first before my answer, they insisted on the same question and then when I started to say it, he hung up on me.

Today was the worst treatment, usually the call is matter of fact and then I'm hung up on.

After filing a complaint with ICANN, I called back. This time the man wasn't talking like a robot and said he would remove my address. When I mentioned that I already had called twice before and had documented the calls, and asked were the mailings really going to stop, he said "do what you want with it (the documentation), let it control your life."

I ask that you PLEASE address the matter of this company. Additionally, I have many clients who also receive these notices and believe they are something they need to pay for. I feel this company is TAKING ADVANTAGE of unknowing folks.

I would like for them to be STOPPED from being allowed to collect money in the name of domain registration. HOW IS THIS LEGAL?

I would like for this company to be SHUT DOWN!

PLEASE send me a reply regarding this matter. PLEASE direct me to an agency who can assist with this matter if you can not.

Respectfully, **

Domain Registry uses websites like www.who.is to phish for upcoming renewals for website domains and then send mail out letters to have individuals and businesses sign their domains over to their company. They collect your credit card information as well and attempts to call lead nowhere or to constant hold ques.
