Dominion Power (Imposter) Reports & Reviews (14)

We were contacted by a person claiming that they were from Dominion Power requesting us to pay before our power was to be cut off.

- Midlothian, VA, USA

Representative called claiming to be collections and will turn off our business electricity off. I stated I had made a payment but needed verification that they were dominion. They asked me to call Michelle Thomas at ext.204 #18885031032. The rep said Michelle Thomas was not there but he could help. After demanding payment I asked to speak to a supervisor. His name was "Kevin Pillar" station 202. He could not verify the correct payment amount so I was suspicious. All the reps had a heavy accent. I hung up and called Dominion customer service immediately. They were able to verify my account past payments.

The number calls claiming to be dominion power saying that your power will be shut off in the next 45 mins. He then asks if you will be making a payment

they scammer called my business and threatened to shut down the power if an immediate payment is not made. i called them back because i was not at the business. i tried to get a hold of the supervisor because i have my account on auto payment. they said the manager will call me back at a later date/time. the man on the other line, bobby johnson, kept insisting that i will get a call back at a later date. so i asked for his name, after he gave me that he insisted for my phone number, i said before i give it to you i need an employ ID for reference. he immediately hung up the phone.

This has happened to me multiple times. They call my business and tell my staff they are from the local power company. They say that I failed to pay a bill and the power is about to get shut off - someone is already on the way and it will be shut off in 1/2 hour.

Call started with scammer asking to speak with the responsible party of 'this property'. I asked the property address, and they did provide an accurate address to one of my properties. Then he (Mexican/Spanish accent 'Antonio' ) proceeded to say they were with Dominion Energy (or Power) and that this was a courtesy call since they are cutting off the power to the location for non-payment within the hour. This is a very good scammer...he remained calm when I was explaining that if they did not collect the payment that it was Dominion's fault since their bills are automatically drafted from my account. (not a credit card....so when he tried to say maybe the card number changed... it was definitely another indication of a scam.) I was able to get on 1. my bank account to verify for myself the draft from Dominion on my account and 2. my Dominion account to show there was a $0 balance. I asked him for the number to call (but planning on using the phone # from the invoice.) He gave me the number he was calling from but said that it would take too long if went through the normal number and then I'd have to pay to get my power turned back on. This definitely made me hot and irritated - since it had to be bunk. But he was very good. I did call the number back AND they actually have a Dominion recorded answering service with all the same #s to press. But he told me to press 0... and of course, it wouldn't have mattered which number I pressed since it was only directly to him. There was an echo as if he were in an empty room or bathroom (on both calls). When the person answered... it was apparently the same person who tried to make his voice sound deeper and gave me a name of Pedro. They gave me employee numbers and even said that my account had been current until this month (which it would not have been even a week late). When I asked him for my account number, he said they could only verify our account numbers and not provide them (another scammer indication). Needless to say this was an aggravation, but it is a very cool and confident scammer...so much so that they called me again on Monday. (oh the first call was on Saturday and Dominion is not even open on Saturdays to speak with anyone). Please pass this on as best you can - to warn people of this very clever scammer. They use a toll free number 800-596-7629 (which doesn't spell DOM anywhere in the number.) I really hope they are caught before they scam any one and have to pay dearly for their pathetic way of stealing. [The amount indicated is an assumption based on the amount of the electric bill. They may have tried for more or less...but after getting any of my information .... they definitely would have taken more.] I tried to report this to Dominion Energy but was on hold for over 30 minutes, so hopefully this can be passed on to them.

I was contacted by "Antonio" who claimed to be a representative of Dominion Power. He new my company's address and claimed a disconnect order had been issued for my power and that a technician was en route to turn of my electricity if he did not receive payment in the next 45 minutes. He wanted me to get a Money Pak same day payment card at a nearby grocery store to be able to stop the service interruption.

Clues that this was a scam: Restricted Number caller ID. They could not tell me the exact amount of my last bill. The number provided was not Dominion Power main number, and his extension was x0.

- Richmond, VA, USA

Scammer called as Dominion Power threatening to turn off our power in 45 minutes if we did not make a payment. They said our bills were in collections when all our payments are up to date.

My secretary was told that the power would be turned off if we didn't pay our bill.

I received a phone call from 703-454-0309 from a Mexican sounding person who said that my Dominion power bill was delinquent and that they were going to be turning off my power today - I am a business. He gave me a number to call - 1-800-986-4564 and told me to provide them with a number (0018794796) for the CSR to identify my account in reference to cancellation of my power service.

I immediately called the real Dominion Power company to verify that my account was NOT past due and is, in fact, up to date and current with a $0.00 balance, like I knew it was.

PLEASE WARN OTHERS ABOUT THIS SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Electric cut off if payment by Green Dot Express not received immediatly

Called asking to speak to the business owner. We were notified that the power to our building was scheduled to be shut off in approximately 1 hour unless a payment was made. Upon speaking to their representative they wanted $998.83 immediately in order to avoid shut off. Was advised that we needed to take cash to the CVS located at 591 Jefferson Davis Hwy in Fredericksburg, VA and wire it to them. Our case # was Y915263487-001. Representative name was James Cross. Received a second call from them appx 30 minutes later, this time his name was Jonathan. We advised that this was a scam and they immediately hung up.

- Portsmouth, VA, USA
