Duct Cleaning Service Scam - Facebook Message Board Posts Reports & Reviews (1)

- Cochranville, PA, USA

I was first contacted by this person called "James Webster" who posted on Facebook group called "West Grove Message Board" about vent cleaning. I approached him on Facebook Messenger and told him I was interested in getting my house vents cleaned. He then asked how many AC units I have and I responded stating 2. He then quoted $450 which included cleaning of the supply vent using negative air machinery and inspection of furnace and dryer. He also stated that there was availability for Oct 1st. Until this point, he did not affiliate himself with any company. My assumption was he would himself be doing the cleaning, but on 1st Oct, I received a text by Muhammed who stated to be from Envision Services USA LLC and was the technician who will be arriving at 2:40 PM (appointment was for 3 PM, so tech was going to arrive ~20 minutes sooner than scheduled). There were 2 technicians who arrived at my home and pretended to clean the vents. They came in a blue Mercedes SUV car with heavy equipment. For almost 2 hours they were at my home and afterwards, told me that I owe $675 for the service. I made the payment by check and asked for a receipt. They told me they will email the receipt to me. I asked for a business card, they told me they don't have any, all contact information can be found on the receipt. The email from receipt came from email id [email protected]

Soon after the technicians left the residence, the carbon monoxide detectors started going off. I had no clue why this was happening, so we evacuated the home and returned after a few hours. At this point the alarms had turned off. I tried calling the customer service number listed on their website, which is supposed to be 24X7 helpline, but it kept going to voicemail. Assuming that it was a Sunday, I decided to try calling them next day. Later, when I tried reaching them next business day, it again went to voicemail. I tried reaching to James Webster on Facebook, and again no response. I tried calling the technician's number, but the call would not even go through. I am worried this was a scam and I have lost $675 to these scamsters!
