There was a job offer on indeed.ca for a graphic design intern. It looked like it came from a big and respectable company. When I wanted to apply for my relevant position on indeed.ca, it told me to apply on the company's website (though there were different other job offers from the same company on indeed.ca and for those position you had an option to apply on indeed.ca and not to be redirected). I am aware of scammers so the first thing I did was looking at the web address. The interesting thing is the site was legit of a real company. So I applied and immediately got a notification to my email that I "successfully applied". I didn't have a good at what email was used to send me this confirmation because I didn't suspect anything at that point. Next day I received a reply from this, allegedly, real company, which was strange because I do know that recruiters in Canada never send job offers so soon, sometimes there could be weeks till you hear from them. Nonetheless, when I started reading the email, I immediately saw that something was wrong about it. It offered unrealistically low salary for basically "slave work". Not even a salary, but a one-time payment. I opened the address line, looked at the email it was sent from and laughed. I looked too hilarious. I still decided to try to expose them in their lies and wrote them back that I was happy to book an interview with them (which in itself would show that I wasn't serious). They immediately replied back to me (immediately! because apparently an HR of huge company with 1500+ employees and many locations across North America has nothing else to do than to answer to an intern) and asked me to download an app which will be used for our interview. It was really funny and I told them that the app cannot be downloaded in my country. I guess, they finally figured out that I had been pulling their leg and never got back to me again.

What really unsettled me in this whole situation was that the scammers managed to use a real company site and real job offers redirecting to them. I found an HR manager of the real Dulcedo on Linkedin and sent her a message with the explanation of the situation. The scammers sent me emails on her behalf. She confirmed that her real email address was absolutely different and had a company name in it (well, that was what I knew myself).

Good thing, I had fun with these scammers which relieved some stress from job hunting. Bad thing, they stole my time that I could use applying for real companies. Also bad, that now they know some of my personal information (a phone number, for example) and might be using this info for other scams. Also, I am worried about other candidates who are less experienced with scammers. I am a sort of an old-sea dog, I can recognize a scam when I see one though this time even I was fooled by replying on a legit site. Who could know that scammers can nowadays hijack real companies emails and send job offers on their behalf. These people become more and more creative.

I attached screenshots of my conversation with scammers.

There will be part 2 for another scammer that I want to report. Yes, I am that lucky today.
