Duquesne Light Shut Off - Total Scam
"Good afternoon, this is James with Duquesne Light. This call is recorded. It's regarding a disconnection order we have for services. We sent the 14-day notification, and we have not received a response. Disconnection is scheduled for 1:30 today. Please contact the disconnection team at 412-571-4989."
I called the number, which is not the published DLC phone number and reached someone named “Michael”, who sounded just like "James", and would not confirm the last four digits of the account in supposedly in arrears for “security purposes” (we have 10 accounts, all set up on autopay, all current). I was disconnected, and when I called back I got the same guy, only now he was “Ryan”. He doubled down on not confirming the account number, then told me that the autopay had been cancelled.
I asked him what the payment method was that was cancelled and he said credit card, but DLC doesn’t let you autopay on credit card. I then asked him to confirm the last payment amount and date and he got flustered and said he was going to transfer me to billing, which is not open on the weekends. The phone sat in limbo until it finally disconnected. Total jagoffs, trying to scare and scam people.
