"About 13 August 2020, as I was attempting to get on board ZOOM via Google, my computer screen was suddenly filled with RED and a caution not to turn off my computer or my hard drive would be frozen permanently. The message advised me to contact+ 202/858-5222, which I did. I was put in contact with Mr. "Victor Frahm," who spoke with a near eastern accent, saying he was with "EASE Computer Solutions," which works for "Windows Tech Support." I was then advised I could have my computer hard drive cleaned up for only $299.99 -- which was bout what I was comtemplating anyway.
My check was to be mailed to 4409 68th Street, LaMesa CA 91942 by certified mail with a tracking number, which wen tout the same day and was receipted two days later. Other telephone numbers which I was referred to call were 844/874-6683 and 318/402-4357. EASE required I give them a "security code," which I did --"12541." From that point on, all went well, including the deletion of a program called "One Safe Cleaner Program," which had been bothering me for at least 6 months.
Then, on 4 September 2020, I received a telephone call from "David Jones," also with a near eastern accent, who said EASE was going out of business and I was to receive a refund of my "subscription" funds. He gave me a phone number 702/827-1475. He told me to turn on my computer so that he could disestablish my "account." I then told him to call be back 3 hours later, and I called my Internet Service Provider, (Saber.net in Lodi, California) to ask their advice for the forthcoming call from EASE. They did not know of that company and suggested it was a scam, and to hang up on them.
At precisely 1:00 pm, 4 September, "David" called back to say my computer screen would be blacked out if I did not follow his instructions on cancelling my account and having my funds returned -- he said he had all my "information," including my Email address, phone number (but not SSN or Medicare number). I told him I would prefer to send authorisation to cancel in the mail and to send my refund by the same medium. He refused, saying that would not be in accordance with his regulations and insisted I turn on my comuter to the Email program and then -- to press "Ctrl," "Windows" and letter "R," which I would not do, not knowing where I was being led. He then got very vociferious, and said my account had to be closed in this manner and if I did not comply, my screen would be turned permanantly BLACK. After another 10 minutes of argument, "David" hung up on me.
As of 2:00 pm, 5 September, I have had no ill effects on my computer, but am in constant fear that somehow EASE will intercept me when my computer is on and incapacitate it.
Can you please help?"
