Received an online alert saying from Microsoft that my laptop was infected with a Trojan Horse virus and to call the posted phone number immediately, the screen was locked and could not close it so I called the number. The person who answered was obviously from India or Arab, I could barely understand what he was saying, I became irritated and said I did not know who he was, he then put his supervisor on the phone who spoke a little clearer. He guided me through the process of obtaining my IP address off my laptop, at which time he gained access to my computer. He claimed I had 81 hackers on my PC, as I viewed the process, he searched 2 IP addresses on my PC showing one was out of California which hacked my PC through Yahoo and another from Kentucky who hacked through Amazon. I was convinced it was real and then he told me his company worked for Microsoft to clean up infected computers, it would cost me $4.00 per hacker to remove which would be $324.00 or I could purchase a 2 year security plan for $500.00! I figured I had no choice so I gave him my credit card information to proceed with the removal of the hackers. It was weird that he wanted me to call my bank right then to approve the transaction but I told him they were closed; which they were. He said if they proceeded I had to call my bank first thing in the morning to approve the transaction, which I told him I would. As I watched my screen it looked like they were really cleaning up my PC, it took about an hour and then they called me to let me know it was completed. Everything seemed to be working fine so the next morning I received a call from my credit union to approve the $500 transaction, I approved it and figured that was done. Later that day a friend informed me it sounded like a scam, so I went on the ScamPulse.com site and searched their company name and found 2 reports with the same name for Tech Support scams. I was in a panic and pulled up my banking account and did not see the transaction had gone through, I called the credit union and was told even though I had approved the transaction it prompted a red flag for an International transaction so they did not pay it, I was do happy and thanked them. I hurried and changed all my passwords on my accounts online and also canceled my credit card since they had my card information. I then went to the ScamPulse.com and filed a report. The guy at the ScamPulse.com was very helpful and told me to also take my PC in for a cleaning to make sure that company had not put any tracking information on the PC. All in all thankfully I am only out the cost of $100 to the PC shop for cleaning my computer, it could have been a lot worse. Please never give access to your computer to anyone over the phone or online!

My laptop computer locked up with a voice and text warning stating that if I shut it down, all data would be lost. I tried everything I could to exit the screen to no avail. The message indicated it was from Microsoft support and I should call the listed number for immediate support. When I call, they stated they were certified to handle problems for Microsoft and that m computer was hacked They offered to examine it for free to determine the extent of the damage. The final result was that over one thousand attempt had been made to hack my email address and personal data including credit card numbers, etc. They said they could fix it immediately with their security software with a two year protection plan for $300. I could not afford to lose the data on my computer, so allowed them to do this. They worked for about 1 1/2 hours until complete. I paid with my bank ATM card and was given security information for making contact with them for any services during the two year contract. I am sure this was a scam and believe that if I had just shut my computer down to begin with, the problem would have gone away. But again, I could not take a chance of losing the data on my computer so fell into their scam. I could probably get my bank to return payment to me, but would be happy just to see people like this stopped.
