We were looking to buy a Samoyed puppy. We ran across this website selling Samoyed puppies using Google. The site is a sponsored site on Google. The website looks legitimate but there were several things that tipped me off that it might be a scam. First, the puppies were well under the going rate for this breed of puppies. When asked why the puppies were so inexpensive they told us they were half price because they had another litter on the way. Second, the pictures of the available puppies seemed to be taken in different locations. The inside pictures had different types of wood flooring, and the outside pictures looked like they were in different states. Finally, after inspecting the pictures a little more closely a couple of the puppies pictures had collars and tags. Almost, no breeders put collars on their puppies and never put tags on them.

Now being suspicious I looked up the pictures they were using on the website and was able to find the pictures of one of the puppies, Kyra, had been stolen from another website. I started using Google to search for the images of the puppies for sale and was able to find a Facebook page where the exact picture of the puppy, Kyra, was posted 3 years ago even though the website represents the puppy age as 11 weeks old as of 11/23/2023. I tracked down that picture to an Instagram page for a Samoyed named Kyra Bear. The puppy for sale was also named Kyra. I checked for the other pictures the scammers had sent us of the puppy and all of them were from this same Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/kyrabearlife). This was enough evidence for me to believe the site was in deed a scam.

I started using Google to look for other images on their website and was able to find one of their testimonial pictures on an Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/juliieex3333) as well. I have messaged the owner of the page but have not gotten a response yet.

Here is how the scam works. They have an official looking website. When you contact them they send you more pictures and videos of the puppy you are interested in. Those pictures are from Instagram pages as well. The ask for a $500 deposit before you can even go to their location to see the puppies. This is in their F.A.Q. page as well. Because we live in another state we were going to have to pay $1000 for the dog to be shipped to us. They informed us they take the following forms of payment: Zelle, Cash app, Chime and Venmo.

They also asked for the following information:

House Address?

State, City and Postal Code?

Name of Nearest Major Airport(s) closest to you?

I thought it was weird they needed our home address when we were going to be picking up the dog at the airport.
