I was contacted today by a person named Renee Cook who claims that back in 2009 I obtained a payday loan from a company by the name of EZ Corp. and that I would be served in court for check fraud if I did not make payment to them (Elite Legal d/b/a ECS Legal) today, or make arrangement to pay. She claimed that the amount owed was $891.00 but that they (ECS Legal) would settle for $667.00 if paid immediately. I do not recall taking out a cash advance loan from this company six years ago, and simply requested that they send me confirmation of this transaction. She said they do not do this until after I make the payment. When I asked for the ECS Legal address, she balked but eventually gave an address to me located in Florida. When I asked for the address for EZ Corp., she refused and said that is their corporate address and she does not have it, and besides, no one from there would talk to me anyway. I will not be the victim of a scam, and refused to make any type of payment or provide any of my credit account information. How she obtained my direct work number I do not know, but she made an error when she said that she showed that the company that I worked for in 2009 was the company that I work for now, as I have only worked here since 2011. I think that because I made the mistake of taking out some payday loans in the past (which have been paid), that my information is being "sold" to scam artists who are hopeful that their victim will be intimidated or will not recall if or when the did take out a payday loan. I happen to work in a legal group, and know my rights, but many people do not. This is an example of harassment, and not to be taken lightly.
