This company contacted me about a stay at home job, working data entry for a hospital based out of Lousiana. It seemed legit, as I had been putting in applications for days. It paid $35 an hour, and being that I have a Bachelor's degree in CIS, I figured that my hard work had finally paid off. Most things that are too good to be true, are. And I didn't see this one coming. They never asked for banking info or a SS #, but they did ask for my address and phone number. They even asked me to write an essay on my last job, and how I dealt with a problem at it. Anyways, I'll get to the part where I figured it out. They never asked me to fill out a W2, instead, I got an email with a $4750 check attached for equipment. I was wary, because how would they react if I just took the money and cut all ties, and I already have a very expensive computer setup that I built myself. But up until then, everything seemed completely legit. So I printed out the check, by instruction, and took it to my bank to ask them if this seemed legit. I know I can cash checks by picture on my banking app, so I wasn't sure if they could cash it at the bank after being printed. Short answer is, no. They cannot. So I called the bank that was listed on the check. Turns out, the company's checks have been compromised. There's a red flag on that account.

So I decided to see how far I could take this. I created a deposit slip saying that I deposited the money. I then sent it to them, minus my account number as they requested, and messaged them on RingCentral as asked. They sent me a message saying that I need to order the equipment, and then sent the "vendor" $100 for the shipping. That's as far as I've gotten so far. I've contacted a few anti-scammer YouTubers to see if they want to run this story and warn people. Until then, I'm going to keep playing this game with them.

One more thing, now that I'm going through the emails, I'm starting to see minor spelling mistakes and words that don't make sense. I was too excited about getting a good job to see them before. I'm just glad I didn't send them money. As I'm typing this, they just sent me a list of very expensive equipment to purchase with the money. They want me to send them the money through Zelle or gift cards, as expected. They tried, oh they tried. LOL
