He said their roof and gutters were in disrepair. After briefly going up on the roof, Fred said there was major structural damage. He offered to replace the roof for $15,000 and then repair other areas for $65,000. My parents agreed and signed a 1-page contract. Fred came back next day and started doing work. My parents did NOT require this work. His cell is 914-426-6717.
Thankfully, my Mother called me that day. When I heard the price and that he lied about doing work down the street and did not have a permit to knock on the door (red flag), I immediately called the ******** Chief of Police (who is a friend) to go by my parent's home.
When the Chief of Police of ******** saw the contract and proposed pricing, he confirmed this was a scam and told the crew to stop work immediately. I called "Fred James" (he wasn't there doing any of the work) and told him I would be there to discuss directly (along with the police). He said he was coming to my parent's house, but never showed up. THANKFULLY, no money was exchanged!
Empire Home has done this to multiple people in the Morris County area. Preying on older people is despicable. I am very thankful to the Chief of Police of ******** that my parents did not lose money they could not afford to lose.
