Autobahn Therapeutics was offering online a remote Data Entry job working from home on 7/19/24. Once I was chosen for the job, The hiring manager (Brian Richardson) then sent an E-check for $1250 to supposedly help get started with the materials needed. They then asked me to send the money ($1250) to a vendor (McBride supplies it all) in 2 different transactions of $625 each via PayPal under friends and family only. Brian Richardson asked for an additional fee of $570 on 7/20/24 assured me this would take care of shipping for materials from vendor Darryl Dobin (McBride supplies it all). Brain then asked for additional $980 stating the cost of materials had increased. Brain also stated materials would be at my home Monday morning 7/22/24 to get me set up and start working. The following day, 7/21/24 Brian asked for an additional $850 to be sent due to shipping over the weekend. I asked Brian if we could continue the process on Monday morning so the $850 weekend process would not be required. Brain insisted that we need to get things done and I need to send the vendor $850 ASAP. I asked Brian why all upfront fees needed to come from me. Why were the funds not sent directly to vendor from the company. I refused and told Brian I would contact him Monday morning at 7:00 am eastern time. When I contacted him on Monday 7/22/24, I asked why the additional $850 should have to be sent since now being a working day when he had stated the only reason for $850 was weekend processing. Brain then insisted for me send $850. I told Brian I had exhausted all my funds then he asked me to send $425 if I could not send the $850. When I refused, Brian informed me that I was to send more funds to continue the process for me to start work. Brain kept telling me to follow his instructions. I stated I understood his instructions, but I was not sending additional funds and that for an employer to ask an employee to front so much money was not normal. Brian then just stated okay and that he would not reimburse any of my upfront fees unless I sent an additional $850.
