I was contacted about a job I had applied for on indeed... It was a remote data entry position. They contacted me and requested an interview via Skype (text only no video). They let me know after the interview that I would hear back from them regarding the position. Two days later they contacted me via text to direct me back to Skype and then confirmed that I had been awarded the position and they wanted me to start as soon as we got all systems in place. Initially I was led to believe I would be purchasing (at their expense) programs needed to complete my duties. On Monday morning I received an official offer and a w4 to fill out and sign. After that was completed they informed me that they would be sending me a PDF file of a check that I was to print out and deposit via Mobile deposit. The check arrived shortly after that. When I opened the document I noticed it was from a different company than the one which had supposedly just hired me. When I questioned that I was told that it was one of their clients who was actually paying for the needed items, at this point they had also informed me that I would be purchasing a printer and Mac book in addition to the software. The check was written for $2000. At this point I requested that they furnish the needed equipment and send it to me, they refused. After that I requested a wire transfer so I could be sure it was legit and was told that they only used checks for this purpose and that it was to see if I was trustworthy and how I handled funds. I ignored them for a couple of hours after that and then they started to get pushy about whether I had deposited it yet and did I still want the job. I replied that sure, I'd love the job, as long as they could prove they weren't scamming me... That's the last I've heard from them.
