• On March 19, 2024, an individual identified as “Michael Alan” contacted the victim via the Microsoft Teams messenger application (MS Teams) about an alleged employment opportunity at Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA). This alleged employment opportunity was initially found an online job platform, Indeed.com, where the victim provided personal information as part of the job application process.

• Between March 19 and March 20, 2024, the victim was interviewed via MS Teams for the alleged job opportunity. During the interview process, the scammer provided additional positions for the victim to consider, including “data entry”, “office assistants”, “administrative assistants” and “customer service representative.” The scammer impersonated the legitimate organization, Catholic Charities USA, including use of the profile name "Catholic Charities USA", a profile photo containing the organization's trademark and logo, which are both registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office under U.S. Trademark Registration Nos. 4181972 and 4181985.

• Throughout the interview process, the scammer further impersonated various CCUSA employees and requested the victim to provide personal identification information, including location, specific personal history/experiences along with bank/payment details. A purported co-worker of the scammer was identified as “Kimberlee Collins”.

• Following the initial interview, the scammer sent the victim a purported employment offer letter via e-mail.

• The scammer then provided a meeting link (https://teams.live.com/I/invite/FEAHm3hXmU9ic4-IwM) for a meeting with an individual identified as “Gary Riley”, purportedly a representative from a software vendor “alphabet Tec Inc.”; the victim was further instructed by the scammer to provide bank/payment details, allegedly for purchasing software/equipment related to the job offer.

• The victim contacted the legitimate CCUSA organization regarding the purported job opportunity/interview/offer, and it was confirmed to be a scam.
