Employment Scam - Interview Fee Scam Reports & Reviews (2)

- New York, NY, USA • Jan 10, 2024

The scammer used a job listing for a server position on Indeed. I received a phone call from 646-389-3537 and by a woman named Laura Collins. She asked if I could come in for an interview tomorrow January 10, 2023. I then received an email with details of where to go for my interview. The email was suspicious as there was no direct company name, or description of the 'server' position in detail. Here is the email:

Hi ********** **********,

--

As per your phone conversation, you have been scheduled for an appointment for a server position interview on January 10th, Wednesday at 11 AM. The office is located at Jay Suites - 30 Broad Street on the 14th Floor.

When you get to the 14th floor please tell the receptionist at the desk that you were sent to see Collins for an interview. Please bring with you your ID so that they will let you in through security. Come dressed in appropriate attire, and bring a physical resume, and the $80 for the class registration in either cash or money order.

These are the possible trains to the office:

R, W, or 1 train to Rector Street

4 or 5 train to Wall Street

J or Z train to Broad Street ********************************************************************************... />

Be it that this email seemed strange I google searched a reddit forum using the address, 30 Broad Street on the 14th Floor. I found a forum dating back as far as 5 years ago and as recent as 26 days ago. In these posts interviewees were scammed out of hundreds of dollars by this company claiming to need the money for a food handlers license. Here is the thread: ********************************************************************************... company has been able to scam most likely thousands of New Yorkers who are looking for honest work by using job posting sites like Indeed to mask their exploitation.

My hope is that there is a process in which this situation can be investigated in order to protect tax paying job seeking New Yorkers from this outcome.

The interview process went too quick as the interviewer spoke. Too quickly and left out a lot of details about the position. The interviewer was not professional in his approach and didnt ask any questions. I found suspicious that they did not mention initially the $200 on top of the $80 that they requested right away. The interview was strange because it took place with another interview being done at the same time in the same room.
