Employment - Training Fee Scam Reports & Reviews (3)

I received a call from a place purporting to be a hospitality company called Top Shelf Hospitality. I was told to come to an office in Queens on a Friday where they gave me info on jobs and restaurants they allegedly had contracted with. I was told to put my info down and come back on Monday to take a test so I could receive a "certificate" to show to the employer when I got to the "interview". Before I took the test they had me pay $296 to take it (I could have paid up to $400 for an "exclusive package"). When I passed they gave me the "certificate", took my picture with me holding it, and said to go to a restaurant called Sotto 13 in Greenwich Village that Friday for an interview. When I arrived, the owner had no idea who I was and said there was no interview. I went back to the office and asked what the **** just happened and they told me to call a number on Tuesday or Thursday because that's where the "job placement division" was available. I then had a therapy session where my therapist and I looked up the address and company name and all the reviews said it was a scam. I then consulted my credit card company to discuss getting a refund and may have to take extra measures to protect my privacy (although who knows if they already sold it to whoever *** ****).

i was approached in the call with the opportunity of a job offer and was told to bring $150.00 as a registration fee and if i didn't get the job id get it back. when talking the interview i was told that there was opening that were available though i needed to pay 2 trainings which was cpr and osha which would have came up to $325.00 extra but instead the manger of the company told me instead i need 799 dollars for the training which instead was a "advanced level training package" to which i said it'd take a week for me to accumalate the money to which Mr. Deluca agreed too. I then texted Mr.deluca a week and a half later seeing if he had postions that only required a security license and if not then id like to see i can get the $150.00 for the registration fee since there would be no point for me to "work" for them if there wasnt any postions. To which he responded with a no and texts in bold letters saying all payments are none refundable. ive looked through the contract i signed and i agree it says any payments of training of any kind is down for the training services, but at this moment im now being forced to pay to for training services to even be thought about as a candidate for the job after being told by himself that he'd hook me up. while i understand certain places do require certain trainings and requirements to work there, it seems very questionable to have me on contract to be able to get a job but then also keep me from getting a job because im not doing the training and added bonus of only being to get the trainings done through the establishment too, just to not be guarenteed a job when you are sending out calls and offers and as if you did get a job.
