I received an email on May 20, 2024 from "Mary Chrisanti, Lead Talent Specialist" for Energy Dome, which appears to be a legitimate company based in Italy with an office in Boston. The email said I had been shortlisted for an interview and asked me to contact "David Martin, Hiring Manager" via Telegram. I did so and after an interview that was entirely through Telegram, "David Martin" told me I was hired. This person (email: [email protected]) also claimed that Energy Dome would be opening an office in Boulder on June 24. I would be paid $18.75 per hour for one week of training and then $28.75 as a full-time employee when the office opened. The Energy Dome website lists a David Martin as an employee and his photo matches what I saw on Telegram. However, today I realized that this is a scam because of the following. "David Martin" sent me a FedEx overnight package containing a check for $4,982 (payable to me) that was to be used for purchasing equipment (and I was supposed to retain $250 as a sign-on bonus). I sent one payment of $1,500 to Joe Piston ([email protected]) through Google Pay, but a second payment of $1,700 was declined, so I contacted my bank. The Fraud Department informed me that the check is fraudulent and the job is therefore likely a scam. I then noticed that the FedEx label shows the check was mailed from a solar panel company in CA called Renogy. I contacted Google Pay to recover the $1,500 payment and I am waiting to hear from them. I also reported this to the Colorado AG office. I filled out new hire paperwork/tax documents that asked for my SSN, but I was not asked for photocopies of documents such as my driver's license. I also did not provide bank account info. I ceased contact with "David Martin" as soon as I realized what was going on. I am unsure what else to do.

On the first day on the email. They informed to upload an app called Telegram Messenger to contact a person named David Martin. So I did my interview all via text messaging with this David Martin person and he sent me an email to fill out paperwork. This included privacy and conduct form, job offer letter, USCIS Form I-9, and the W-4 form. Which they now have my personal information including my social security number. Then they sent over a check to my address for me to go deposit. My bank automatically placed my check on hold and they told me to use my own money to purchase some apple gift cards due to their "merchant" can utilize them to program my computer with the accounting software that I would need for my job. Each card to have $2,000 to purchase the equipments. And they made me signed a re-imbursement copy of the amount i spent for that day (considering that i was still pending on the check to pull through) then the following day, my bank informed me that the check was fraudulent and that i needed to contact my merchant. I did and they ignored every text message from the Telegram app.

I followed a long interview process via text, and then was "hired" on the spot based off my answers. They said I was  to receive all information for a new hire the next morning.
