Type of a scam Employment
I was approached by PC Chief of Human Resources (Office) with EnergyMark LLC with a job offer.
This was my first time applying for a job in 7+ years as I have worked for my current company for 7 and was in the Military for 8 (leading into my current company's time).
He offered $1,500/week which is much more than I currently make and I believe I may have been blinded by the amount.
The website was legitimate -- his profile lined up.
He then asked me to deposit a $2,900 check into my account, printing on the check papers I purchased from OfficeDepot, stating it was for the equipment to be shipped since it was a remote position (I was told I would be reimbursed). Should have been red flag #1 but, it was not.
I then had to purchase MANY gift cards to complete the $2,900 in my account -- I even question the legitimacy behind why I was purchasing gift cards, but his answer was convincing to where I continued to do so for that amount.
After the initial $2,900, he said he was going to send me another check for the amount of $2,500 which he never did.
The next day or two, I found out that I was NEGATIVE THOUSANDS in my account since they pulled the check out as a non-paid transaction AND the scammers were able to deposit the other check into my account (when it is pulled out, I will be negative *if it is not already*.
I have the bank looking into it as fraud -- I have my stepfather who is a computer whiz and can track using IP addresses, attempting to find them -- and I am out money AND I turned down other legit job opportunities to be scammed. My resignation date it is coming up and I still do not have any legit prospects for jobs at the moment, even with my many years of experience in the DoD Contracting/Military world.
I never expected to be scammed to this degree, or at all; especially on job posting sites but that is the cruel world we live in I suppose.
