Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
So here is why this is suspicious to me. Ok. The Careers Team sent this message: Hi,
Please find attached the Screening Questions for the Screening/Interview process. Keep in mind that there are no ‘Right Answers'.
The Screening Test/Interview Questions are designed to gauge your skills and give us an idea of how you approach tasks relevant to the (Remote Video Editor) role. You are required to email back your answers to me ASAP.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

I opened up a document and answered reasonable questions like “Tell us about yourself, How do you stay updated on the latest tools and trends, As a video editor, whose work do you admire? What do you like to watch in your own time, etc.
The questions were not too personal, but job related. The Careers Team wrote via email that it’s going to be a remote position and that the pay is $85, but I’d have to undergo training for 3-7 days, which pays $45 per hour. A couple of days after the interview questions, on Monday, they decided to hire me.
The training is supposed to be via Zoom as mentioned in the email, but before that progress. This person failed to mention his or her name. Whatever the proper pronouns are seems irrelevant, but I was not thinking of asking for the person’s name at that moment. The person said “You will receive your pay weekly by direct deposit or check, depending on which you prefer.”
Then he asked for my full name, home address, phone number, and email. Like, was not that on my resume, but some legitimate jobs may ask for that information. That was for him to send me a check to purchase equipment for a mini office to do video editing work.
So I gave him that information forwarded the message to the Human Resources with my PayPal link. Human Resources email: [email protected]
Human Resources said that by the end of the day, I’ll receive an Employment Offer Letter. At this point, they were just now mentioning that I’ll be working 30-40 hours per week and can choose my own schedule. Then they wanted me to print out the Employment Offer Letter, append my signature, and email back the signed copy. Attached to the document, they wanted my state ID. Human Resources said attached to the document in the email, so I went up to the library the next day after telling people about the job opportunity, getting a bit excited. It took a while to get up there because I had other things to do, but I print out the copies, the Human Resources text me on my phone greeting me and saying my name, then texted, “This is Human Resources at Epic Games. How are you doing?”
I mentioned I was printing out the documents right now. Whoever I was texting texted back, “Okay. I’m waiting.” That made me not even want to continue applying, but at this point, my dad was with me, I told others about the position, and I wanted a good paying job. On the document was information asking for my social security number, current address and previous address. I emailed Human Resources a copy of the Employment Offer Letter and a background check with a printed out copy of my state ID. The person texted back, “But I want you to take a picture of your ID (front and back) with your phone and attach to me right here. Let it be very clear.”
To me, that sounded rude and it was not what was mentioned previously. At this point, I already sent my social security number. I just took the pictures anyway. I asked for the person’s name. He said Adam Smith.
Then he sent me a picture of a check without an address on it for $4,900 and wanted me to cash it out on Ingo Money by linking it to PayPal. Ingo Money has bad reviews. Others complain that Ingo Money is a scam. I can’t cash out the check via PayPal anyway because I lack a bank account. I mentioned Ingo Money has bad reviews and that I cannot cash out the check. I then texted that he can just send me a physical check or send the money directly via PayPal. I already have video editing software and a computer. I mentioned that and so far, the Adam did not respond back after that.
In an email, it talks about me meeting up at their local designated office. I thought it was a remote position. That defeats the purpose of having video equipment for me at my place.
So I am just hoping that the company is not a scam. The method they used was not clear and I feel like they could’ve handled things better. If I was thinking in my right state of mind, I wouldn’t have given out such information, but one thing led to another. I told others about the job and their excitement was like a sense of approval, but these so-called jobs do not care about your future. So I am not saying it is a scam, but I surely did not see an address on the picture of the Epic Games check, which is suspicious. I do not want anyone messing with my money or personal information.
I just feel like they could’ve been more caring, talked more about the film side of things instead of office equipment and a check. I would attach a picture of the check to the ScamPulse.com page, but do not want anyone to tamper with that, if it’s somehow real. After a while, the company did not make me feel comfortable, especially after hearing ongoing topics about identity theft a loved one mentioned. Like if I can show the check and nothing bad will happen, I would, but it definitely lacks an address. I filled out the documents, then got the picture of the check. I did not lose money yet, but am just updating you. If anything else happens, I’ll say more.
For the time being, I am not trying to discuss this topic with the news media, but if I notice anything more, I may.
