I have been an information security professional for decades. One my clients had me speak to a retired person that needed infosec help.
The retired person thought that their devices had been compromised. I suggested that I forensically wipe their computer and smartphone. Then I could properly configuring them following a well-known information security protocosl. The user agreed.
Not long after the work was completed, the user told me that months earlier Eprominent IT Services (EProm) had called. They told the user that their computer had been broken into. For a fee (thousands of dollars) EProm would secure their computer and smartphone. The user paid the fee, and let EProm into the devices months earlier.
Well, AFTER I wiped and secured the devices, EProm called this person again, saying (in summary) that the users devices had been broken into and data stolen. EProm again said, for a fee, they would make them secure again. The retired person told them that these issues were now being handled by me. EProm told the user to tell me to call them, giving the user a very anglo name.
I looked up this company...man are they scammy! Hiding domain information, routing calls to a call center in what seems to be south asia. When I called, the person answering gave another common anglo name...this person seemed to be south asian. The rep had no clue about real information security, and he kept pressuring me for my phone number so the right person could call me back. No freakin way!
I gave the scammy rep one of my email addresses, and told him to have the person that called the retired person email me so we can set up a time for call. Guess what? No email.
The retired person has mostly been home. Think about it...the devices were completely wiped, hardened with industry compliant protocols..and right after that, somehow BOTH devices were compromised at the same time, I have a greater chance of winning tonight's lotto than that odds of that these devices were BOTH compromised shortly after the steps that I took. And, if they were breached again...how would the EProm know? I wiped the devices of all non factory software. The devices are not even connected perpetually.
I recommend that anyone reading this NOT give Eprominent IT Services the time of day, let alone ANY money.

At this time I called the company to find out information on the package my in-laws had paid for, and before I could finish my sentence, the man on the other side said, "Are you a customer?" and I said "no." To which he replied, "you can't call us then," and hung up. I thought maybe I called a number special for customers, so I went back to their homepage and called the number that said it was for sales, and the same guy answered and said, "stop calling" and hung up again.
I called another number that my in-laws said they call when they have problems, and told the company I was given this number by one of their customers and wanted some information on their products and services. The guy was trying to explain that they will charge $699 a year for their full package, however it may only be $199 or $299. Nothing he said was making sense. I asked if there is a process for refund if they are not able to fix my computer, however he said, "there is no way, nothing, that would not be able to be fixed." He said, "our security is the best and nothing will get through, and all problems can be fixed by our company remotely, and if there's something wrong with the hardware not the software, they will let you know and you can take that to be fixed."
This company is an absolute scam based out of another country that is unable to deliver what they've promised, and will use fear tactics to scare you into paying more money. DO NOT USE!!
Since the customer has already raised the chargeback of $800 with the bank, we are in process of dispute & have provided all the relevant documents to the bank and the case is under review.
