I was contacted by email that stated I would need to set up a google hangout account and send them an invite. But there was no video call like I was expecting. Only IM messaging back and forth. They claimed to be from Essel Group, a large worldwide company, with many areas of business. The interview was conducted this way, and after I passed, I was told I would be receiving a check to be deposited, and other than the 150.00 sign on bonus, the rest was to be used for about 6 different software programs which were to be purchased from the vendors they chose. I received the check overnight Fedex, but waited to deposit it or tell them, since that night I researched to company and saw some mentions of very similar scams, one used the same interview wording verbatim. I was supposed to sign and email back the Offer of Employment that I received in an email on gmail. At this point that had my name, address, phone number, and email address. I held off on signing the Offer of Employment due to confusing wording about the taxes withheld, since this was something I needed to look into, since this was an international company. Good thing I did, because when I took the check to my bank, they asked questions saying that it looked questionable (it did- no company letterhead or individual payers info at all, just a Wells Fargo logo in upper left corner. A cashiers check) and who was it from/what for. When I said new job, to purchase software, they said that sounded like recent scams. They held a copy they made of check to research its validity, because if I deposited it, and it was found to be fraudulent, my account would be flagged for depositing fraudulent checks. Either way it would take a minimum of 24hrs. This bought me time before doing anything else, as I did not tell them I took it to the bank yet. The contact "Jessica Roberts" said I did not follow instructions; I was supposed to deposit it into the ATM! Then "she" said in interview, when I was asked to confirm what I would do once I received the check, I did not say deposit check and wait for it to clear. That this was nonsense and that I (me!!!) was not professional!!!! --- Can you believe this? They wanted to rush me to use my money to buy from their vendors, which is them, too, I am sure. Then once you buy whatever with your money, the check is found to be bad, and they are gone with your money, and wgatever info they could get. Thank God I didn't fill out a W4 with my social security number and DOB. Hope these [censored] don't try to get credit cards in my name.

The name of supposed HR person, was Stephen D. Taylor. The main contact was Jessica Roberts. The check was for over $3000.00, I was to hold on to 150 for sign on bonus. I never received the laptop as promised. And don't really have a work from home CSR job, til they open the new office here at 15.75 / hr for training and 25/hr for work. Preying on honest people looking for work is wrong!

Man texted me after I applied for employment via Glassdoor. He asked me to download Google Hangouts for interview and told me general informs yin about Essel Group and asked me interview questions. After a pause I was told that I was accepted for the job abd that money would be sent for software needed and I would take out so much for a bonus but that the rest needed to go to a vendor of their choosing. The next day I questioned the man on the legitimacy of his employment and he assured me that it was legitimate and said I would receive a phone call for proof. Never heard anything. Today I received the check for the software which I plan to destroy.
