Type of a scam Identity Theft

Someone called and identified themselves as Entergy new orleans worker saying that my account had been set to disconnection in 30-40 minutes. I told them I was not past due. He said he would transfer me to another number since may payment was actually due today and if I got disconnected I should call 1-866-272-7220. The new person got on the phone stating that a technician would be disconnecting my service in 30-40 minutes so that I could no longer pay online as it takes 72 hours to process. He knew my last name and asked for my entergy account number.Unfortunately I gave it to him. He said I would have to pay on phone and I told him I felt this was part of a scam and would not . He became angry and said that I should have received a letter stating that the online payment processing was experiencing a glitch and would no longer be accepted. I said no I had not received the letter nor had I received a text message or email to that effect . He Said that I was being rude and should not treat people trying to help me like that ?!he said well you will just have to deal with the technician and hung up .
