Event assistant position Reports & Reviews (1)

- Salt Lake City, UT, USA • Oct 04, 2024

I applied for the Event Assistant position with Pure Path Promotions on 9/25/2024. An Angelina Berry got back to me via text to set up an interview scheduled for Monday 9/30/2024, in person downtown slc at the Clift building 7th floor. I was never given the contact information for who I would be interviewing with, only a text confirmation of the in person interview and the first name Derek or Darrell. This is a rent out office space which seemed strange to me that they didn’t own their office space. So this business has no permanent address. The first interview lasted 5 minutes. Derek didn’t know which position I applied for and asked me only 1 question about my experience, and then said he wasn’t able to answer any specific questions about the role but my second interview would be more detailed. They scheduled me a second interview for Friday 10/4/2024, also in person in the same building. This time Darrell spoke with me for about 25 mins, in which I learned the role has nothing to do with event coordination at all. This company allegedly works with charities to fundraise money for those in need. He mentioned “toy drives or helping mothers with 6 children pay their mortgage”. I asked if he could tell me about what these fundraising events were like, and he pulled out his phone to show me pictures of people in casual clothing out on the street or at a booth. They refer to these door to door sales or booths outside of a gas station as “events” to fundraise. So the job is about cold calling and approaching contacts on your own and asking people to donate, sometimes getting maybe $1000 a day. There are no actual events taking place, and also no leads. In terms of pay, it was advertised as $600-$900 per week. This is also a lie, as the pay is exclusively commission based, meaning you would earn 3.5% of whatever sales you generated with no base wage and no benefits. Darrell then shared that he wants someone proving they can make money for 12 months, and then the role would move into hiring and training other staff members to expand the business. Again, where is the assisting with events part of this job? I informed Darrell that this was not a good fit for me, and not the role I applied for and promptly left. This was a complete scam and waste of time. It should not take 2 interviews in person to understand the basic duties of the role which do not align at all with the posted job description. The website for Pure Path Promotions is vague and there is no contact information. They claim to be in 22 different states, but there is no record of any of this on their website nor any mention of specific charities they work with. They also seem to operate under the alias of Paragon Prime Solutions. I have also reported them to the Federal Trade Commission and the Utah Department of Commerce, Division of Consumer Protection. Someone needs to investigate further as they are lying about working with charities and scamming vulnerable people into working for their fraudulent company.
