"I am reaching out to see if you would be interested in exploring new opportunities. I am Head of Leadership Consulting at Exec Search Pros Inc. Our client has retained us to fill various senior-level positions in one of their recent acquisitions. I was referred to you by an outside talent sourcing firm and based on your previous experience I think you are a very credible candidate.
If you are interested in learning more, please reply back to this email with an updated copy of your resume and I will connect you with the recruiter leading this project and schedule an introductory call".
After replying to said email and forwarding my resume to Ms. Jones, about 1 week passed before Ms. Jones replied and indicated that she had forwarded my resume to a Brad Wilson, the purported recruiting lead on said project, and stated that I "should expect to hear from Mr. Wilson shortly to schedule an interview call".
Another week passed before I heard from Mr. Wilson via email who confirmed that he had received my resume from Ms. Jones and that whereas he could successfully open the .pdf file sent, he was unable to successfully upload my resume to the firm's candidate management system. Mr. Wilson proceeded to suggest that there must be a file or formatting issue associated with my resume and recommended that "get a free resume review from https://resume-experts.com/ and see if you can identify and fix the problem".
Interesting to note that when I clicked on the link for the purported "free resume review", the resume review was NOT free and cost $10 as stated on said website. As my suspicions were already heightened, suffice it to say that I did not proceed with the "free resume review" and cease further communications with Mr. Wilson, Ms. Jones, and Execsearch Pros Inc.
The first red flag was that Ms. Jones initial email indicated that she was referred to me by an outside talent sourcing firm but, however, did not disclose the name of the firm. The second red flag was Mr. Wilson suggesting that there was a file or formatting issue associated with my resume whereas he could open the file and I had uploaded said file to apply to hundreds of job postings without issue. The third red flag was that I have never heard of an executive search firm requesting that a prospective candidate pay to have their resume reviewed through a site that looks very similar to the Execsearch Pros Inc. home website.
Interesting to note that when one does an internet search on Execsearch Pros Inc., an article on recruiting scams (see attached) appears in the search results that details and mirrors my experience and communication from the firm in question. It is my belief that Execsearch Pros Inc. sourced my email address through LinkedIn and targeted and intended to take me down path of of paying exorbitant fees under the guise of pursuing a fictitious job opportunity.
