Expedia Tripcenter Spoof Reports & Reviews (1)

- Plano, TX, USA • Nov 22, 2024

On November 10th, 2024, I thought I was talking with someone in customer service with Expedia to assist me with a vacation family package to Barbados. The person I spoke with had a very polished English accent mixed with India accent. He was very professional on the phone with me during the initial engagement. I asked if I was speaking with someone with Expedia, and the response was "yes". I then asked if he could assist me with a travel package for me and my siblings to Barbados, and I also explained to him that my siblings will be traveling from an Africa Country to join me in Barbados. This individual identified himself as "Edwin". He gathered my personal information including my siblings' names for the booking and then asked me to pay the initial payment of $625.00 in order to secure the reservation. Unfortunately, I made the payment, and he sent me an email to confirm the first transaction. Following the payment on the 10th, he called back again from this number 888-4447-6152 on Nov .20th, 2024, requesting that I make immediate payment of $1600 including bank charge of 240.00 with my debit cards. He told me that once I make this payment, then I can begin payment arrangement with Expedia. Again, I thought I was speaking to a trustworthy agent, but I guess I was not. This Edwin person told me that I should expect a call from a representative from Expedia who will assist in setting the payment plan for me until my trip in Feb. 2025. Just as he stated, I received a call from this individual who took my personal information including my date of birth and social security number. This individual to me that he was attempting to secure a loan through Affirm and Klarna. This Individual also requested I provide him with affirm and Klarna code, which I never initiated with these two companies, but it was strange that contacts were made I received one time code for them to check my credit with the hope that affirm or Klarna will fund the remaining balance, but luckily, I did not get approval for the intended amount. Following this encounter, I reviewed the emails from this Edwin; and then realized there was never a confirmation reference number for the reservation I made under this Expedia imposters. I immediately called the number to inquire on my findings, and nobody could explain the situation to me. These individuals are mostly Indians. It appeared they might be operating in India, but they were very crafty with the scamming. I called Expedia main number to complain, and Expedia denied any knowledge of my reservation. I also called the Trip center Website, and they also denied any knowledge of my reservation, it then dawns on me that I have been scammed and just lost $2513. I immediately contacted my banks to alert them of the situation; and thankfully they are pursuing the matter. The experience was just devasting. I am 66 years old, and I felt robbed and demoralized. I hope the government can track these individuals who hide under the Umbrella of Expedia to exploit American Citizens especially the elderlies like me. This needs to stop and unacceptable. I can assure you that these are criminals with orchestrated plans to scam whoever is vulnerable.
