Expedition Sales LLC Reports & Reviews (1)

- Lawton, OK, USA

Couple of guys from around early to mid-20's approach you when you're coming out of a store. In my case, it was a ***. They came up to me saying that they are part of a contest in which they are competing with other people to sell the most magazines. They had a list of multiple magazines and had me pick out 8-12 magazines that you think kids may like to read. They claim that the magazines are going to be sent to kids for a year long subscription. They dressed like normal college students and acted all excited, happy, and friendly, getting a little too much in my personal space to put me off guard. They explain that the contest is between them and the "girl's team". In my case they said that they were working to get paid enough to start up their own tattoo shop. This was in Lawton, OK where a lot of the military personnel are fans of getting tattoos. It seems to try to appeal to the demographic that they are trying to scam. They claim each magazine gives them a certain amount of "points" that will be tallied up from the receipts they give you with each type of magazine being worth a different amount of points. They don't tell that each magazine choice you make will each cost around $60.00 until after you finish filling out the information. Each scammer is highly rehearsed. Making the same jokes to the same concerns and questions you have for them. Stuff like "oh it won't cost you much, just an million dollars, an arm, a leg, and the right half of your body". They are very organized. They used several tricks on me to try to put me at ease. Joking, talking, asking about my interests, etc, but they would also deflect or deny any questions or concerns I had. After that, they will ask you to give them your name and phone number. They claimed to be local and further claimed that their coordinator would give you a call to thank you for your patronage. They were even willing to text me the number of their coordinator so that I could talk to them. The number is an Arizona number so as match the P.O. Box they supposedly have in Phoenix, AZ. After filling out the receipt, they will take you to a nearby ATM. For me, it was one that was so "conveniently placed in the parking lot" and ask you to pull out the money in cash. No electronic paper trail. If you can't afford the magazines, they will claim that they will lose some of their "points" for having to rip up the receipt. They will then provide you the receipt which has their P.O. Box and their website on there. They claim that the receipt can be used for a tax write off later down the line and will claim that they are willing to pay the shipping fee for the magazines for you. They relay on people's ignorance of the law. As this is a civil issue, they have relatively low risk involved as the police are unable to help. They neither rob you or force you to pull out the money, but one of them stayed near the ATM with me and other waited outside the glass booth to block of the exit. I called the police and had a cop meet me at the store. They seemed to notice and pointedly either went into the store or moved away from the area and only returned after the police were gone. They might be attempting to goad people into a confrontation by doing so. Trying to frustrate their targets, but that's just speculation. They either work in pairs or as single scammers. Altogether, I only saw 3 of them. 2 of them worked to together and 1 of them worked by himself.
