We tried purchasing a puppy on line. After we sent money through Zelle, a shipping company emailed us telling us we had to purchase insurance for the puppy or he would not be able to be put on a plane. The insurance would cost $1523.89 and we would get 97% of it back after delivery. Our gut told us this wasn't the right thing to do. The delivery company called us and told us he could not ship the puppy until this insurance was purchased, stating it was required by U.S. Pet control and had to do with Covid-19 Pandemic. Against our better judgement, we did try to Zelle the money for the insurance, but luckily our Bank blocked the transaction. When we called the bank, they advised they have had reports that this is a scam and warned us that we would not get our money back if we chose to resend the money. We responded to the email stating we could not send the money for the insurance because our bank blocked the transaction and the bank told us it was a scam. We tried calling the scammer back at the number he called us, but he did not answer. Of course we received a call back, from the same guy later, stating, "how can the bank know this is a scam", we hung up on him and never heard back from them. Another thing we found odd, was that the Zelle account they wanted the insurance money sent to, was a personal email, not a company email.
