Expressway Tech Reports & Reviews (1)

- Kansas City, KS, USA

On Friday, November 6th, somehow our wireless service was hacked and my husband called ATT but it was intercepted by Express way Tech who represented themselves as ATT and they advised us that someone has access to our wireless service and ATT could not fix the issue but they could transfer us to someone who could. They wanted to transfer us to a Tech that would further help us once he gains remote control and check out what is going on. They could not get connected to my husbands laptop so my husband told me to try mine and work with them to resolve our issue. I took over working with the (fake) ATT representative on the line. They requested to take remote control of my PC to see the error and try to fix it. He immediately said can't fix it, Techs can. I was transferred to the Tech Jamie Roby he said his name was. He asked me to reboot my modem ( I have ATT Uverse and this should have been my red flag) I told him if I did that, I would be disconnected from him so he asked can he call my cell. I gave him my cell and the phone number was a regular long distance number not an 800 number. I rebooted with no luck to my wireless. So I suggested I hook up using my Ethernet, I then noticed I had service with my Ethernet and questioned him on how that could be. He proceeded to explain all the terrible things going on with my wireless, telling me a lot of people are using it, malware is going to be downloaded, but they can help me, may take overnight, they will call us back next day, will cost $399. I balked at the cost, he assured me they had many plans, I could get a 1yr protection for $149 but not to worry. His rate of speech was very fast now. Then he told me he needed to transfer me back to ATT so they can get some information from me and get our authorization to do the work....the ATT rep my husband and I originally spoke to came back on the line and that is when I realized this was not right..,there is no way I would get the same representative back. He wanted me to provide my full name, address, phone number and that is when I questioned the whole event, saying ATT would have this information. He hung up on me. I called the number back and the person answered as PC Tech. I asked the name of the company, he would not tell me. I then said...I have been working with you for the last hour, you are fixing my PC and you cannot tell me the name of the company. He said Comcast ma'am. I said thanks and proceeded to reboot my PC to disconnect the remote control they had and I dialed ATT to question this and found out it was all a scam. ATT assured me it was not them and they provided my wireless key to get us back online. I have no idea how these people did this but it was scary. If I did not question the amount, I may of left my pc on long enough for them to steal my identify and personal information. I called ATT back again and installed their version of software security on our systems to avoid this in the future.
