Extra Survey Reports & Reviews (1)

I was a victim of fraud through the Mystery Shopper Walmart Gift card scam.

They texted me and asked if I wanted to be a mystery Shopper and I filled out an online form with my details.

A few days later I got a USPS priority mail envelope with my assignment and check.

The instructions said that there were reports of lapses in Management at the local banks and Walmarts in my area and that I had to do survey of their customer services while remaining anonymous.

I went to the bank and cashed the check, no questions asked. The next set of instructions told me to go to 2 Walmarts and buy groceries worth $60 while surveying the store. And then to buy 3 giftcards worth $400 each at each of the Walmarts. After I purchased the gift cards I had to scratch off the cards and give send them a picture of the number. I went home to write up my report because they said I could get $100 bonus if I completed it in 24hrs.

So after I sent the report they told me that I did a great job and they would send me the address of where to send the gift cards. I waited until 4 days later and when I happened to check my bank account it was overdrawn because the check had failed and then the bank took the money.

I know that this was my fault but I really wish my bank ESL who I have been a very good customer with for 10 years do not have more preventative measures in place when this happens. Could they not have checked the account to see if the money was in there? Apparently these types of scams happen everyday yet they don't seem to be doing anything about it or warning customers. They never emailed me or called me to let me know the check bounced.

They offered me no recourse to getting the money back either. I feel like they cashed the check in the first place, why don't they have any responsibility to protect my money?

And as for Walmart if they know about these scams why don't they have posters on their walls in the stores alerting customers to this. I'm sure if I had seen something to that effect I would have thought twice. Or even a store policy when buying giftcards over a certain amount, they could say something to the effect of "Hi, I just want to let you it's store policy to let you know that anyone buying giftcards over $500 that there are scams out there which ask you to scratch off the card and send the picture" Something to warn the consumer. Only after you get scammed do you google and investigate and yes Walmart does have a lot about these scams, but no one is going online to check this prior to being scammed, since you don't know you are being scammed in the first place. I guess the couldn't care less since they still get their money.
