My kitten turned 1 yr on 3/3 and died 3/22. She went to our vet for her shots, Bravecto for fleas, ticks and anything else she needed. She was growing and getting so big. All the sudden she was playing and collapsed. She was crying out in pain and her back legs were paralyzed. She died within 30 minutes.
In a study of Ragdolls, it was found that approximately 30% of all Ragdolls carry the mutant gene that is responsible for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Because of this, breeders will likely test their cats for the gene and will remove any cat that tests positive from their breeding pool in order to try an eliminate HCM from the breed. If you are looking to purchase a Ragdoll kitten make sure your breeder gives you a guarantee in their contract (https://ragdollcatsworld.com/ragdoll-cat-breeder-contract-what-you-need-to-know...⇄ that both parents are negative for the gene mutation.
