The scammer pretended to want to purchase an item on Facebook Marketplace and requested to sent be a 6-digit code (The google voice scam). I did not comply and reported the person to facebook

contacted by buyer on fb marketplace. He paid via Venmo. Then received email from venmo that buyer had to send additional $200 to upgrade my account. See attached emails from fake venmo account. I paid $200 to buyer's identified source via paypal. see attached copies of emails.

This... person...had contacted me about an item that I had listed on Marketplace and in multiple groups. After going back and forth and around in circles regarding them sending me a "confirmation code" which was supposed to apparently prove that I am who I say I am...and wanting me to tell them what that code was...and the code supposedly not working so they would send another (about 4 different ones within 24 hours) I started to get sketched out. Especially after a "different person" messaged me from the same number. I finally got snippy and said, "look. You either want the recliner, or not. There are other people who are interested...they quit contacting me. Come to find out, the person actually lives in China, "Fiona" is a dude ?? and I'm left feeling kinda dumb. I reported them to Facebook, as well as warned people in the various sales groups that I am in.

I had never heard of this scam before, so I wanted to make others aware.

I loathe scammers.
