Email from Mr. Wallace:
It is a pleasure meeting you by email and I appreciate you responding to this request sent on my behalf by Melissa.
My company will need the assistance of your firm to represent and help us with a real estate dispute case that involves the refund of an investment we made with a builder in your state. We help a lot of high-profile clients invest in various business opportunities in different investment sectors around the country.
We were approached to invest in a real estate partnership opportunity to purchase a landed property on the 16th of April 2023. They needed us as a silent investor for the purchase with a guarantee of 20% of our investment returned 2 years after the deal was closed. The amount they needed was $3.6 Million.
Details for conflict check below:
Building Company/Debtor: Cannon Builders, Inc.193 N Lincoln Dr, Troy, MO 63379
When they were ready to present their offer, they requested that we help them with the offer deposit which was $1,950,0000. The funds were sent to them so they could present the offer 18th of April 2023. We got word from them that the deal was off as they were not able to agree on a price of purchase with the seller. They informed us that funds would be remitted back to us since they were not moving on with the plan to purchase the landed property.
They notified us that we would get our refund back within 30 days from the day of notice which was the 19th of April 2023. We have tried to reach them numerous times to get an update on when the funds will be returned and we have not gotten anything positive from them.
I will need your firm advice on how we can get this issue resolved or how we can get the funds returned as soon as possible. we do have an investment contract with them and part of the conditions for a refund was that if for any reason they are not able to close on the purchase they will have to return the monies to us. I will send the required documents and correspondence once we have engaged your firm to work with us on this matter.
Kindly advise me on your billing rate for your services, we would prefer to be billed on an hourly monthly basis. Send me your retainer agreement upon completing your conflict check so we can get things moving swiftly. I will schedule a time to speak to you after reviewing your retainer agreement. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you.
Regards,
Drew Wallace

Our firm then sent an engagement letter via email on 2/9/24 to Mr. Wallace, requesting a retainer and set two phone calls, both of which Mr. Wallace missed and called a a later, inconvenient time. Before the phone calls, Mr. Wallace indicated that he told the investor he had retained our firm and to direct all settlement payments to us via wire transfer. He then asked for our bank account information which we declined to give out, due to suspicion and requested Mr. Wallace to send a retainer check to our firm before we would start any work. We did into receive the retainer payment, though Mr. Wallace signed and returned our engagement letter. We then received an email on 2/15/24 from a Melissa Thompson of TRADING DIRECT LLC, with a Settlement Agreement for our "client", Mr. Wallace to sign and indicating a first payment of $245,000 was being sent to our office by FedEx. At this point we became further suspicious, did some internet searches on all the companies named above (Schroder Capital, LLC, Trading Direct, LLC and Cannon Builders, Inc.). All companies appear to be real companies. However, we found not evidence that Drew Wallace is employed by Schroder Capital (he stated he was the COO, Sales and marketing) or that Melissia Thompson is employed by Trading Direct, Inc. Mr. Wallace just tried to contact us again today asking for representation and we declined to represent him, stating our firm cannot take on such work at this time. At this point, Mr. Wallace became rude and belligerent with us, stating he had other firms lined up to represent him. We frankly do not believe that this was a legitimate claim and that Mr. Wallace and possibly Ms. Thompson searched the internet to drop names of actual companies to get us to provide our firm's banking information in hopes of gaining access to our bank accounts to potentially withdraw funds illegally.
