i RECEIVED A POSTAL MAIL (NOT THE FIRST) stating that I would lose coverage if I didn't call in with VIN and Mileage by Nov. 12, 2024.

- Kingwood, TX, USA • Oct 04, 2024

Shortly after buying a vehicle from a used car dealership, I received a very official-looking post card --with no indication that it was an advertisement-- stating that it was required that I register "for continued protection" for the vehicle I had purchased (the post card included specific information about the vehicle). The language was clearly trying to convey that I had signed up for a warranty protection plan when I bought the vehicle and that I was going to lose that protection if I didn't call within 2 weeks. This post card was so real looking that I had to go back and review my car dealer paperwork to confirm that I hadn't actually signed up for this alleged service.

The scam involves repeated post cards that say you have to call within 5 days of the purchase of a used car or the warranty will expire. The post cards all use certain personal information — full name, address, personal information, Vehicle Identification Number, make and model. The post cards (received 3 of them) claimed I had only 5 days to “update the factory warranty” on my newly purchased used car.

No company is listed — the suggestion is that this is from Hyundai (I purchased a used Hyundai) without saying so.

Received letter about Nissan auto service contract sent to another name at my address. Called to inform that no one with that nae at my address. Respondent repeatedly and aggressively demanded information about my car, milage and vin number, and warned me not to hang up, which I eventually did.

Scammer sent FINAL NOTICE postcard regarding my newly purchased vehicle stating in order to guarantee its safe operation I needed to call. When I called, they said my vehicle was flagged for OCM Chip, brain of vehicle and computer system.. each would cost over $4,000 to fix and if I don’t purchase extended warranty, I’d have to pay all of it out of pocket and my VIN would be flagged and no dealer would work on my vehicle. I asked for their company name and they said Warranty Protection Dept.. they could not give me a company name and when I asked for their business address, they asked for my address. I spoke with my car dealership, and there is no such issue and it did not come from them. These scammers are relentless and caused upset :(

Received several postal mails from unnamed company that my "factory warranty on my 2015 Honda CRV" has expired. Te letter only gives an 888 #,no return address on envelope or letter. I do not have any such warranty, just our car insurance with Geico. This is clearly scam.

- Manassas, VA, USA

Contacted by the scammer concerning a vehicle I purchased in VA less than 6 months ago, and asked to call concerning my warranty expiring. It was the first notice I received to my PO Box and said this was the FINAL NOTICE or my warranty would expire. I was given a number to call with my VIN and mileage information to "activate" the extension of my factory warranty, or vehicle service contract, which the letter stated I had failed to do. The scammer had much of my information already including vehicle Make/Model, so the most logical source of the information appears to be from the vehicle manufacturer (NISSAN in my case) or VA DMV, where someone possibly stole or sold the information (speculating since I cannot imagine how else it was obtained).
