My fathers email was hacked and a mass email was sent to his contacts asking to purchase an Apple gift card online and send it to an email address. The initial email said he couldn't talk because he had laryngitis and asked if I was available by email instead of a call. I responded asking what he needed and they responded back that he was trying to get an Apple gift card for a sick niece but was having trouble online and wanted to know if I could try to buy one. They asked if I could email it directly to the sick nieces email address because he was out of town and couldn't go to a store and get a physical card. The email said they would pay me back as soon as they were back in town. They knew specific personal details about a trip my father was actually on as well as the fact that my fathers niece is actually sick with cancer. I asked how much they wanted the gift card for and the email address to send it to. The asked for $400 be emailed directly to [email protected]. I knew this was a scam and did not buy or send a gift card.
