Type of a scam Employment
Freelancer doesn't seem to control who employers are. I applied for postings that just say Retyping words from PDF to Excel. Same as what the previous person has described, you get chosen very quickly and then the "interview" was conducted through Google Hangout. They tell you that you have been hired for a part-time job for $30 or $37/hr 28 hrs/week. You will be doing administrative work, but what exactly the work entails is not being disclosed. Then they insist to send you a check of $4900 through email instead of mail. And make you print and deposit it through mobil app asap. And right after you see the new balance in your account, they ask you to send money through Zelle or Venmo to a vendor, and they will insist you do that on the same day (because if you delay this process, the bank will eventually tell you the check was not valid). So reality you are sending your own money before the check bounces. I asked him why I am doing this before signing any contract and he kept saying it's on its way. And he sent me a blank W2 form to trick me into thinking this is real. Luckily I stopped at when he demanded me to send money to this vendor and blocked him immediately.
This happened again with another employer who did this a bit smarter than the first guy. They actually created a fake contract.
If you see names like [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] stay away from them as far as possible.
