Type of a scam Government Grant
On Friday July 9, 2021, at 8:09 pm, my daughter received notification in her Face Book Messenger account from an acquaintance of hers saying that there was a new "government program" that was through referrals only, that was created to help people affected by the pandemic. This program was to provide grants of "any amount" towards the purchase of a home or to start up a business.
My daughter's acquaintance (***** *******), told my daughter that she had been approved for $350,000 for the purchase of a property. My daughter trusted what she was told so she asked for the information to get in touch with the "agent" that Ms. ******* was referring her to. Ms. ******* contacted the "agent" who immediately text my daughter (mind you it was on a Friday night) asking her for her full name, address, monthly income, if she owns or rents so that he can start the "ball rolling". Once she provided him with that information, he asked her to text him a copy of her driver's license.
At that point my daughter told me what was going on so I advised her to tell him that she didn't feel comfortable texting that information and to ask him for his website so she could complete the application. He said that since this was "through referrals only", there was no website!! I told her to tell him that she would be willing to email it to him if he would provide her with his email. He hesitated but ultimately he sent it to her. When she received it, there was no government insignia or the .gov in the email.
She let him know that since there was no insignia or a .gov, he was most likely a scam artist and told him to scam someone else. She did not get a reply back from him after that. My daughter immediately texted Ms. ******* telling her that this was a scam but instead of her seeming surprised of concerned, Ms. ******* completely ignored her text.
I hope that these people can be brought to justice because only God knows who else they have defrauded.
