- Rexburg, ID, USA

I received an automated phone call claiming that my name had been used in large scale criminal activity. Naturally, I chose to speak to a representative. The man who answered claimed to work for the law enforcement department of the federal reserve. He asked me what knew of the crimes, and now arrest warrant, in my name. When I said, "Nothing," he told me that he knew I was innocent, tried to comfort me, and said he would protect me from those who had stolen my identity. He told me that he had spoken to the police about the matter and then handed the phone the his superior to give further instructions. On the grounds that they didn't know who the thief was, he told me to stay on the line and not to share this matter with anyone, even my family and friends. He guided me to the bank and then to a BIT machine instructing me to withdraw as much money from my accounts as I could without closing the accounts, and then deposit it into a safe place. I didn't realize it was going straight into his wallet. Luckily, my family knew something suspicious was up and called the real police. The officer found me and stopped me before I could transfer even half of my funds.
